Visit WA. Your complete guide to hikes and camping in Western Australia.
16th November, 2021
As the country’s largest state, Western Australia has no shortage of natural wonders. It has mystifying rock formations, impossibly clear ocean waters and sweeping landscapes that can make any explorer’s heart go wild.
Whether you’re a casual hiker or a consummate adventurer, Western Australia’s coasts, bushlands and forests no doubt have something to make your trip memorable. Here are some of our favourite spots that you should check out for your WA adventure.
Stroll along the beaches of Cape Le Grand National Park
Cape Le Grand National Park is an ancient landscape that has been home to many primitive relict species since rising above sea level over 200 million years ago. Featuring spectacular scenery with its white sand beaches and turquoise waters, Cape Le Grand is an amazing spot not just for camping, but also for enjoying water-based activities like kayaking, canoeing and diving. There are also many walking trails if you want to fully enjoy the panoramic views and fresh sea air.
Explore Cape to Cape Track, Margaret River
For a totally immersive experience in WA’s boundless natural beauty, traverse the 123km-long Cape to Cape Track, the longest and inarguably most popular track in Margaret River. The Track offers an easy stretch to Meekadarabee Falls for beginners. For more serious hikers, there’s the eight-day marathon that loops through the forest and crosses through cliffs, caves and other rock formations. During spring, you can see the wildflowers in full bloom and enjoy the bright blues of the Indian Ocean.
Reach the peak of Bluff Knoll in Stirling Range
Stirling Range National Park is home to rolling mountains and hills that offer fascinating hiking and camping opportunities. Bluff Knoll in particular, has a modest 6km length but an impressive peak of more than 1,000 metres above sea level. Don’t forget your jumper and jacket when you hike in Bluff Knoll, as Stirling Range weather patterns change more often than not.
