13th September, 2022
Victoria is a truly unique part of Australia, filled with endless things to do and see. Whether you’re after the beach, forests or snow, Victoria has it all. We’ve put together a special guide on where to go and what to do when exploring VIC, to ensure you have a memorable hiking or camping trip, no matter what your outdoor preferences are!
Wilson's Promontory National Park
Wilsons Promontory National Park is up there on the list of one of our favourite destinations in Victoria, and maybe even Australia! While it’s located 3.5 hours south east of Melbourne, it’s hard to believe you’re still in the same state. The national park is known for its incredible cliffs and landscapes, pristine beaches with crystal clear water and white sand, well-preserved forests and Australian wildlife. Tidal River campground is a fantastic area to set up camp, and Squeaky Beach is a must see due to its turquoise waters and granite boulders that enclose the space. Wondering where the name ‘Squeaky Beach’ came from? Take a walk on the sand to find out! If you’re looking to get off the beaten track, we highly recommend The Southern Circuit Overnight Hike which will take you to some isolated beaches in the southern part of the national park. To ensure you’re fully prepared for your trip here, ensure you have a sturdy pair of hiking boots, a trusty backpack and a lightweight tent .
Bright High Country
Bright in Victoria’s High Country is a well-known, picturesque destination renowned for its wineries, peak views, local produce and variety of activities to enjoy. It’s located approximately 3.5 hours north east of Melbourne. If you come all this way, we highly recommend a visit to Mount Buffalo National Park. It’s famous for its stunning plateaus of granite boulders, native animals and mesmerising scenery. There are a lot of exciting things to do here, like park walks, camping at Lake Catani, clifftop picnic at The Horn, rock climbing, or even a dip in the icy cold watering holes! To make the most out of your trip, make sure to bring our range of outdoor furniture such as camping tables, cooking accessories, and camping chairs.
Grampians National Park
The Grampians National Park is located approximately 3 hours north west of Melbourne. This region is known for world-famous hiking trails, majestic waterfalls and swimming spots, and breathtaking mountain panoramas. One of the best walks you can take here is at The Pinnacles. The easiest route is from Sundial Park, which includes rock-hopping and water crossings. If you’re after something more adventurous, you can go via Wonderland Car Park or Halls Gap. It’s a longer route but you’ll get to see incredible sites like the Grand Canyon and Venus Baths. Make sure to bring Explore Planet Earth’s sturdy backpack to carry all your essentials!
