According to hikers, it’s easier to go up the steep route and then go down the shallower route to have a much tougher descent. 

St. Mary Peak is within the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park and it requires you to have a National Park Pass such as a single day entry, multiple park entry pass, or a 12-month pass. The trail starts outside the Wilpena Pound Resort.
