28th October, 2022
We're not sure about you, but there's nothing quite like an Aussie adventure, whether that means road tripping, camping or hiking! Getting out there broadens your horizons, and there's something extra special about the memories you make with your travel buddies when you’re exploring the outdoors. At Explore Planet Earth, we dedicate ourselves to providing Australian travellers with everything you'll need on your trip around the country, from tents to sleeping bags and other camping accessories too.
As our name suggests, our passion also includes exploring places even beyond the horizons of our own epic country. Because we haven't been able to for quite some time, we want to take this chance to celebrate by showing you some of the most iconic hikes across the globe we've got on our bucket list!
Torres Del Paine W Circuit (Patagonia, Chile)
The W Circuit in Patagonia, Chile is one of the most famous hiking routes in the world, which is best visited during October to March. The total distance covers about 60 kilometres and it takes five to six days to complete the hike. While the region boasts a number of incredible highlights, our favourite three would have to be Base of the Towers, Valle Frances and Glacier Grey. Additionally, you can also enjoy mountain biking, kayaking and horse riding in this area too.
Everest Base Camp (Nepal)
Even those not into hiking will have heard of the world’s highest peak: Mount Everest. This trek will take you to the first base of the mountain, a total distance of 130 kilometres across 12 days. And after all that hard work, you’ll be rewarded with some seriously majestic views of glaciers, ice falls and panoramic peaks. Add this hike to your bucket list. After all, not many can say that they’ve climbed part of the world’s highest peak! For the best experience, make sure to plan your trip between March to May or September to December.
Trek to Petra (Jordan)
Surrounded by a sea of orange and red canyons and mountains in the south west of Jordan, the ancient city of Petra was “lost” to the outside world for hundreds of years, until it was found again by a Swiss explorer in 1812. Prior to that, it was once a thriving trading centre and the capital of the Nabataean empire between 400 B.C. and 106 A.D. In 1985 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in 2007 it was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Now, there are a number of routes open to tourists so you can go and explore the historical landmarks and architecture. If you want to walk the entire way, 75km, it will take five to six days. The recommended time to visit Petra from October to April.
Tour du Mont Blanc (France, Italy, Switzerland)
Tour du Mont Blanc has to be one of the most memorable multi-day treks on earth – crossing through France, Italy and Switzerland. In terms of scenery, you can expect rocky terrain, mountain peaks, forests and green valleys, making it an incredibly picturesque part of the world. The traditional route spans 170km and takes 11 days to complete, however there are a range of adjusted routes available to suit different needs. No matter which trek you choose, the best time to go is from July to September.
Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania)
Mount Kilimanjaro is not only Africa’s tallest mountain, but it’s also the highest freestanding mountain in the world. To climb this peak, there are many guided tours with a team of highly-skilled professionals to help you along the way. Did you know that it also has three volcanic cones: Mawenzi, Shira and Kibo? The total distance depends on the route, but it usually takes between five to nine days, and the best time to go is between June & October.
